Ballad for My Oldest Friend
On there, that shelf
Sits my oldest friends.
Filled to the brim
With words that create
Worlds and people
That own my heart
And heal my soul.
Those friends,
Who stood beside me,
When no others would.
Who sat beside me,
When I was alone.
I take care of these friends,
As they take care of me.
Flipping through pages,
Through life,
One story at a time.
One world,
Trapped between two covers.
There on that shelf,
Sits my oldest friends.
