The written word

has power.

It can make readers’ eyes gush,

because of that book about a dog,

or the poem about the little boy

exposed to racism and hate.

A young girl,

blond, curious, and innocent

reads an article about the suffering and violence

in third world countries

and is overcome

with grief for those less fortunate.

Writing brings readers

down

on

their

knees.

It’s a hot knife

for the reader and writer alike.

Writing can inspire the masses:

make people rise,

protest,

yell.

It can share “A Dream,”

and fight against discrimination.

It can strike a match

and light a fire.

Graffiti on a subway wall

stops a scruffy man;

provokes him to question and wonder

about the alarming nation around him.

It gives purpose

to those who are lost.

Good writing can change hearts and minds.

Incredible writing can change the world.

Writing is emotion

expressed to the masses.

Writing is a window into hurt,

pain, and sorrow.

Writing is a link to meaning

and inspiration.
