I bumbled down the long, winding road,

when, in the shadows, is that..? Yes!

A man engulfed in sorrow, blubbering by the road.

I pondered the man's reasons for sadness:

Did he get kicked out of his business?

Did his spouse collapse onto the hard, cold ground?

Or did his furry friend take a hike?

Did avarious people march past him, non-sympathetic of his famish or parch?

Did burglars steal his prized possesions?

I wandered past him, guilt in my cranium.

I pondered my actions that night,

and thought why I acted so selfish.

Is it because I could not relate to the dilemma the poor man faced?

Is it because I only understood an enjoyable life?

Is it because I only cared about my sorrows and demands?

The author's comments:

I came up with the inspiration for this piece when I went to Washington D.C. I heard a man yelling or something, who turned out to be a beggar. I thought, what if that man was actually crying and I noticed him? So, I came up with the idea for this poem. The poem is meant for the audience to picture where the setting could've happened: right down the street, or in a different country. I hope you enjoy this poem!
