The monster are out to come and get me
They make me curl up and hide in my bedsheets
I look around my room all huddled in my bundle
then squeeze my eyes tight and begin to mumble
Don't let Dallahan chase me with his horse and spinal whip
and let him call my name, ending my life's trip
Don't let the demons rise up from hell
and devour my soul, taking my life as well
Don't let itte-momen fly near my window
and drift in my room, laying next to my pillow
Don't let them stay near my calm breathing face
and wrap around my mouth so I may suffocate
Don't let the boogie man dance around my room
grab my two feet, and drag me into the gloom
Don't let the banshee drift into my dreams
and give me her curses in terrifying screams
Don't let old Shuck howl in the wind
and cause me to expire at the years end
Let the angels surround me
for the ghouls have found me
Let mister sandman wave his magical hand
and drift me into a sweet dreamland
Let my blessed blankets shield me
and cover me with safe feelings
Let the monsters go away
and leave me alone
don't let them come to stay
make them go home.

The author's comments:

I used to be scared to go to sleep at night, fearing a lot of the monsters and ghouls I mentioned in here. I wanted to go back in time and show how I felt about them.
