Favorite Quote:
"Dearly Beloved, We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life."

- Prince Rogers Nelson (1958-2016)

“Let’s go in the garden. You’ll find something waiting.

Right there where you left it, lying upside down.

When you finally find it, you’ll see how it’s faded.

The underside is lighter when you turn it around.

Everything stays, right where you left it.

Everything stays, but it still changes.

Ever so slightly, daily and nightly.

In little ways, when everything stays.”

This song is a lullaby from one of my favorite shows Adventure Time. While it is a silly show, this song spoke to me like no other song could. It speaks of the innocence of youth and how, no matter what happens, no matter how different things are, there is a place where all your memories stay and never change. In my mind, I always see a mother chasing her laughing baby girl in a beautiful garden blooming with all sorts of flowers. I see a red bouncy ball that the girl plays with. The most powerful line in the song that makes me pause is,

“When you finally find it, you’ll see how it’s faded.

The underside is lighter when you turn it around.”

At this point, I believe that the song is talking about memories. It may seem sad, when you think about your childhood, but there’s another side to it. A lighter side. A side that can still bring a smile to your face even after all those years. Hiding under all those sad emotions is the joyous and curious child you once were, and in some ways, still are. The inner child in you is still there. Running around, along the grass. Still humming the tune, in the garden of youth.

What do you think of when you read the lyrics?
