why is it
that we can only be sad
lonely or miserable
when we are on paper?
why must it be
that there are problems
and then solutions?
why
do we have to write of such depressing things
to fill our eyes and ears with
when happiness surrounds us daily?
why is it that
these days
we disregard the good
and begin with the bad
on paper?
may we not write
of love
beauty
the goodness in this life?
we only have one
so why is it
that we must dwell on its bad side?
why is it
that there has not been a novel written
only of joy and peace?
why must be depend on conflict before the resolution?
i sit here
yearning to write
but it seems impossible
because life
wonderful life
is all around me
i have no demons
i have no wounds
those have healed long ago
stitched with the words i wrote once before
of the wretchedness of life
the inability to comprehend why
it was worth living
but now i see there are greater things
i have someone to love
i see the beauty around me
i present goodness to others
so why is it
that
with all this peace
and comfort
and happiness
i cannot
write?
