Ode to a friend
First thought of a friend
might be a person
or might be a pet
While I do love those all
often books are better yet
They keep my attention
for moments on end
They talk and they spill
But at once carefully attend
You borrow and share
with the people who most care
You remain quite accompanied
through all your emotions,
And always at hand
a distraction of all life’s comotions
