What Have We Become?
it's fascinating
what we would give for the warmth of another.
we drive ourselves insane
wishing
complaining
obsessing
crying over something we can't have,
like we're young children once again.
the only difference between now and then
is that the pain
cuts deeper
and
aches harder
than it once did;
so much so that
we can feel the scars of
unrequited love
with every beat of our hearts
and every ounce of blood pumping through our veins.
and instead of expressing our pain,
we feel obligated
to suppress
to contain
to try to forget.
but we cannot forget.
