"Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise" - Victor Hugo

I stare out the window

Gazing in awe

As I feel the wind

whispering, its secrets in my ear

While keeping my own secrets safe

I feel the cold hit me like a sharp snowball,

Or maybe even a sharp remark

As I watch the thousands of stars shining down on me,

While peppering the night sky

It’s as if they’re singing lullabies to me

Soft, sweet lullabies

The sky is as dark as midnight,

as if someone threw black paint at it

And warned it to stay dark and not fade

The color gives me the shivers,

it represents how I feel at times

As I look around I hear the quietness

The sleeping neighborhood

The sleeping animals

And the sleeping cars

Warning me to stay inside

The darkness gives me a sense of safety,

Peace, and calm I don’t find anywhere else

I look out and I see the shining moon

Brightly lighting my path

And always looking out for me

The author's comments:

Born in Oklahoma city, Vaishnavi (born 2004-present). She started writing poetry in 9th grade. For her, poetry lets her speak her feelings without letting on so much that it might ruin something. Her poetry is representing her dysfunctional family and how she struggles with that and how she sometimes deals with that.
