"We accept the love we think we deserve"

- the perks of being a wallflower

My illustrious sign of independence,

an innocent reminder of change.

My destiny intertwining with its promise,

to make me grow up.

Be with the cool kids.

To suck all the teenage marrow from my bones.

I hate it.

It's look, the way it makes me feel.

It makes me think of what I'll never be,

what's gone.

Like freedom today,

I am trapped underneath broken promises that keep me fearful of its light.

(reprise)

Why can't I have you!

My hands grasp onto hopes and dreams trying to make sense of my reality.

My mind races,

Maddened by the fact that I am the only one left.

Rejected by your majestic beauty.

Let me in on your wagon trails,

Let me savor the expierence of the open road!

I wrote this on the night before I went to take my Driver's License test. This poem is meant to illustrate the anticipation you feel and the doubts you have before a life changing moment.
