My Affliction

It surprises me sometimes how I could not survive without you
How I could not breathe without the words that give me life
Without the words that gift mine own
I do not know how I could live without you
And I am ashamed of every second of it.

Besides the more obtrusive depiction of a person intoxicated with love, "My Affliction" can have multiple meanings, which I leave to the discretion of the reader. I personally wrote it with two perspectives: that of a romantic relationship as well as one's relationship with himself or herself. Living with oneself can be the hardest of all possible things, emphasized by the speaker's inner turmoil and partial expression of self-hatred.
