Where I Am From
I am from poverty.
My family has many friends, but wealth is not one.
I am from a place when “ We can’t afford this” is the norm.
I am from a darkness, that made my heart, heartless
I am from a place where friendship is a stranger.
I am from funerals, that taught me to be the bravest
I am from a place that our hunger was the least of our problems
I am from a childhood that was filled with endless tears
Whether it was the empty fridge or bank account
It was our imagination and creations, that got us through the day
When we fell asleep, all the emotions and feelings went away
Until the next day when we did it all again.
