The Great Demon
The great demon
Who or what is it
Vicious
and Destructive
and red like blood and blue like deep sea
Headbanging, rock and roll, tanking militant pilgrim.
The great demon is a passionate and fiery and icy and powerful
Take all your cruel desires and sins of yourself
Your guilt and hone it into a weapon
Drive it home into your heart because you love to suffer
And you do it to yourself
Satisfaction from making sure you’re the only one you hurt
Selfless selfish
Because the great demon is you
And you hate yourself
With your pitiful expressions
Talking about how you never want to hurt anyone
Or impose yourself onto them
Ultra aware of all your goddamn flaws onto people who never asked for it
You do no good to anyone
Because they do not seem to fawn over you
Don’t you wish they told you they loved you
Don’t you wish they gave you compliments
If no one says it, then does it mean no one means it
If no one says they love you, then does it mean
No one loves you
Heavy is the head that wears the crown
No one would care
And who are you
To assume for other’s
When your own opinions
Are flawed, another sin
Go f**k yourself
Selfish b***h
You are only talking
To yourself

I really like letting out all my angst in my poems, even if I don't feel like it during the writing. I think back to previous emotions that caused me turmoil and changing it into something else more helpful as a healthy coping mechanism. I tried to explain this feeling of false selfishness that I think a lot of people experience, and I wrote the poem in the shape of crown, like holding yourself to a tyrannical moral standard. The lines breaks were so that the edges were symmetrical but also to emphasize what was important. Most people see "demon" as something otherworldly and religious, but it can be related to humanity.
