These Moments
The moonlight,
bright and beautiful,
shone down onto the lake,
and created a mirror on the surface.
The stars shined extra brilliant,
twinkling and sparkling in the clear sky.
The warm air rushed through the trees,
sending whispers through the branches
and onto my skin.
The frogs croaked their all too
familiar sound, a steady ribbit, ribbit,
sent through the cattails and duckweeds
at the edge of the water.
The water was warm,
comfortable for the late night swim in August.
We laid on the top of the water, watching
the meteor shower.
You gripped my hand,
and it felt like something that was meant to be.
“Look!” you say, but somehow,
all I can see is you, staring up into the sky.
You looked so beautiful,
about a thousand times more breathtaking than
the sky above.
I didn’t think it was possible to love anything,
or anyone this much.
But you, in this moment, proved me wrong.
This moment will be forever etched into my mind,
because of the way you made everything feel.
Everything was good, right, practically perfect,
on that warm, August night.

I wrote this about a night I had last summer. It was a perfect time of my life and I will remember and treasure it for forever.
