Lullaby of the Wind
The wind whispers softly in my ear
Telling me stories of kings and queens,
Boasting of long lost treasure heaps of gold,
And warning me of enemies that I must fear.
“Beware!” It sings, “Avoid the golden beast
That rides the sky on wings of fire and smoke.
Watch the horizons for the dragon of gold,
He uses the sun as his cloak.”
The sky beats down upon my back,
As I listen to the lullaby of the wind
That rustles through the old trees,
Stories of ages passed muttered by the breeze.
I scan the sky looking for the dragon of gold,
Wondering about his clever disguise.
I know that these ages passed are past,
There is little chance of these treasures, still.
Sunlight yields to a darkening sky,
Casting long shadows across the fields,
When I spot a flicker of winking gold
Behind the borders of the sky.
