Shifting Skies
The sun sits low on the horizon,
staggered beams
slipping through the blinds,
but we don’t notice.
The sky isn’t really on our minds
except for the swirling clouds
of heavy breath
shrouding our embrace,
the thunderclap
of skin on skin
and the raindrop sweat
upon our faces.
There’s lightning in his eyes,
burning into me
with the stars of his sighs
and the moonlight of his flesh.
I can hear the heartbeat in his chest –
a meteor shower,
powerful,
exploding my senses
into speck of mist,
overcasting our stormy sky.
Moonbeams burst from our bodies,
pulsing through our veins
and the
thump
thump
thump
the thunder
the lightning
the storm
starting to drift away
and then the darkness
settling in again,
and we are back
on the ground.
