Favorite Quote:
“True independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right.” - Brigham Young

he looked at her like she put the stars in the sky

and it scared her.

he told her he was falling for her

and it scared her.

he tucked her hair behind her ear and told her that she was the best thing in this godforsaken world

and it scared her.

he kissed her breathless and held her tight, as if he wanted to have her heart beat against his for eternity

and it scared her.

she felt safe

warm

happy

loved.

the love scared her more than the thought of walking away from it

and so she did.

and it scares her.

The author's comments:

this is mostly about my fear of intimacy and vulnerability in relationships, and reflecting on the events that led up to me and my ex boyfriend breaking up. in the end, I was afraid of being loved, and this poem highlights that.
