We walk: heads down, minds consumed
by the ever-growing social haven
that we seize in grasp.
Its palpable exterior draws us in;
the smooth, glassy cellular solid
holds promises of euphoria.
It’s face-to-face no longer,
only double taps on a virtual memory.
Human interaction is lost.
Where did it go?
My mouth is woven shut,
tapered at the ends with a hashtag.
And all that’s audible is
-ping!-
