we belong together,

but I may never see you again.

this could be the last time

i see your face

make you laugh

see you smile.

we've been together

for so long

but now it's time

to say goodbye.

we all know what's next,

know how this ends,

a big dose of déjà vu.

but I'm not ready to lose you.

not again.

The author's comments:

This poem was written after the second school shutdown in January 2021, as a result a rise in COVD-19 cases. I wanted to convey their emotions about how I felt the schools would be closed another year, and that I would never be able to see the people I grew up with again, as we re entering high school in the fall.

Thankfully, we will be returning to school in February.
