They tell you your weight doesn’t matter

That a number is an arbitrary way to determine your worth

But as you will learn

The value of gold is determined by its mass

A girl would rather have a 25 Kt diamond than a tiny one

The higher the number is at the top of that paper determines your future

They tell you your weight doesn’t matter

That a number is an arbitrary way to determine your worth

Then why have I learned

That less is more when counting calories

That a number on a tag will decide whether or not I am beautiful

That the goal is to shrink a number that doesn’t need to shrink

Because better too small than too big

They tell you your weight doesn’t matter

That a number is an arbitrary way to determine your worth

Then why is it that numbers run our lives

When they say numbers don’t matter

They are trying to say that they support an inclusive movement

While hiding low calorie meal supplements behind their backs

While selling us what “health” is, selling us what we “should be”

They tell you weight doesn’t matter

They are lying

What they mean to say is “ your weight SHOULDN’T matter”

Hi, I am wicked new to writing so this is kind of just something I wrote about, and I just wanted to see if it was anything... This poem is about my own struggles with mental illness and body image.
