See You Soon
My Pop Pop was a very good man
We’re proud you stayed faithful and trusted God’s plan
When times got tough in this very hard season,
You believed in your heart that God had a reason
You were the one who led prayer before every meal
You’d offer us fruit that you’d already peeled
When I was little, we’d play in the sand
At Rusty Rudders where we listened to the band
Crabs were your favorite food
there wasn’t a time when you weren’t in the mood
At the table was where we’d gather
talking over one another because of the chatter
At the beach house was so much fun,
we’d sit on the porch and watch the sun.
Just you and the family, that’s what you liked best
These are the memories we’ll never forget.
You’d take us for rides on your tractor
We’d get mosquito bites, but it didn’t really matter
We’d sit on your lap as you let us steer
while in the cup holder sat your beer
You gave us life lessons that I’ll always keep in hand
I admire your drive, you were a hard working man
You loved being outdoors as I’d watch you chop wood
We’d help for hours doing whatever we could
The basement was your man cave,
filled with collections and treasure that you loved to save
You were always down there it didn’t matter the time
As we watched you, we asked questions, you always were so kind
We never say the words goodbye, only see you soon
Because of Jesus’s grace you are now in a better place
I can have peace in my heart knowing that you're safe
I hope you know I love you as much as you loved me too
I wrote you this poem to say I will see you soon

My name is Tatum. In my free time, I enjoy going to the beach, practicing lacrosse, and playing with my Golden Retriever puppy, Sonny. This past year, my grandfather fought hard battling many medical problems that he had. He recently passed away, and I wrote this poem in honor of him.
