Fake smiles
I smile, pretending to be happy,
I laugh, like I'm having fun,
I join in, like I really care.
You think of me as perfect,
I have a happy little life,
What makes you think,
That I never cry?
You see me as the weird girl,
Who laughs at nearly everything,
You think that I do that for fun,
But you don't see the truth.
I smile to hide my frown,
I laugh to hide my tears,
I join in with you,
Just so you won't worry.
But you never think to ask,
"How are you today?"
Or "are you really okay?"
For I'm the happy girl,
There's no way I could be sad.
Mentally I'm dying,
I am always in pain,
But all you see is a plaster smile,
A mask forced upon my face.
So yes I'm always laughing,
And yes I have great friends,
But have you ever wondered how,
I'm always laughing,
Never crying?
It's because I'm crying in my insides.
