In this poem, I beg of you
To not look for any imagery.
In this poem, I hope that you
Won't go looking for a simile.

My poem is not meant
For you to carefully destroy
Into a thousand little pieces
Of a simple metaphor.

Poets don't write poetry
So we can identify repetition,
And most of us just don't get
How to use personification.

I mean, come on, this is English.
We aren't supposed to use dissection.
Leave your scalpels in science class
And listen to an alliteration.

Please excuse my outburst,
But I don't understand symbolism
Or why it's just so hard
To come up with poetic rhythm.

I just hate it when people
Take my carefully written poetry
And turn it into something else
That they think it should be.

What's ironic is that you do have poetic rhythm and a metaphor (scapels in science class).

but yes, I have to agree. A poem isn't supposed to be this big metaphor that needs to be decoded and analyzed.

PS If you get the chance: please check out some of my work? thank you and good job!

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take... but by the moments that take your breath away.

I know what you mean... We just started 'studing' poetry in english. Some of the people in my class should read this poem. Maybe then their answers will be more right on. Its not what they think the poem is about, but what is actually written! Great job!

This poem is really great, and from poet to poet, this is usually true that people always think there's something to figure out when the words are plainly there. You are really good. Could you check out some of my work I'm new to teenink one of them is "I tryed" Thankyou with lots of love!!!
