Girlhood is beautiful

Posing prim and proper

To an audience who already expects

The best out of you.

They cocoon you in kisses

When you are still glittery and lovely

Girlhood is entrapping

Perfect beautiful angel face

Is not allowed to grow up.

At the risk of losing her sparkle,

Her perfect innocence, her coy charm,

And all of the things that make her so special.

Girlhood is exploitative

Show off your figure, give us a show!

But only when we like it

Give us a show!

Until you reach thirty

And you’re no longer shiny to us

Womanhood is unattractive, and

Girlhood is demeaning

No wonder so many want to escape it

Being young and beautiful is only fun

When you’re old and envy it.

As a teenage girl, there have been times that I have felt uncomfortable and dirty in my feminity because of what society has made of it.

The universe must be a teenage girl. So much darkness, so many stars.
