"I was born very far from where I'm supposed to be. So, I guess I'm on my way home."

I love you as kindly as a pencil loves a blank paper
as kindly as a child's breath loves a dandelion
as bonfire sparks love the cool night air
and as a pinecone loves the city sidewalks

I love you as hopelessly as the sun loves the moon
as hopelessly as the knife loves the metallic blood of a wound
as a wanderer loves their long forgotten home
and as humans love their dead

I love you as brokenly as soldiers love to weep
as hopelessly as august evenings love melancholy and memories
as the depressed love the trigger of a gun
and as the most mysterious love to be known

I love you as sweetly as the ocean loves the rain
as sweetly as June skies love a warm thunderstorm
as my cat loves the summer sun falling through my window
and as the air itself loves the sound waves of music

What do I do with all this love?
I would like to brush your hair with it
and then tie it in a ribbon around your ponytail
at the base of your neck.

I would like to sprinkle some in your coffee
and hide some in your backpack
for you to find
before you leave for school.

I'd like to roll it into a ball and throw it
for you to catch like a baseball
and throw it on to
someone else.

but you are an asshole
so I will not waste my time.
