Again and again

I breath, I eat, I go to school, I sleep

And again, I’m drowning in the deep.

Rays of sunshine cloud my vision

I step into the too bright halls – like a prison.

This high school has never looked so mundane, so bad

Except that it always had.

The same people parade the halls

The same pieces of fractured conversations crash against the walls,

Floating through the persistent fume

Of a blonde girl’s jasmine perfume.

Like scattered pieces of broken glass,

The same people stand alone - avoiding the mass.

But they, too, are responsible for this vicious cycle.

Swirling, twirling, slowly breaking

Me.

A routine – executed by thousands of gracious ballet dancers

I now know how to dodge the elbows, I know all the answers

After all, you learn - always the same dance...

In the monotonous flow of life, I am the only one that sees it

The dull cycle, the repetitive trend

Beginning, middle, end

Of every day.

It’s night and I try to put myself to sleep

But if I close my eyes, I might weep.

I lay my head down, daring a look

At the darkened night sky sprinkled

With pieces of diamonds and rubies.

Alas, the beauty

Is somewhat temporary…

The Sun will rise in the morning and I ‘ll pay:

I’ll be doomed, living the same day

Again

And again.

The author's comments:

I am a high school student, and I consider myself a lover of the 'black - and- white world'. There's only good and bad. However, sometimes, I so enjoy to stir the lines and see the colors...

What inspired me to write this poem is my own experience of being trapped in a cycle - a vicious one - one that I know everyone has experienced at least once in their life.
