My Dearest American Teacher - in response to a micro-aggression
Dearest American teacher,
When you asked me “Do Chinese people really eat dogs?”
It did not matter that we were in biology class
Or that everyone else was talking about sea urchins
Because dogs clearly belonged in the marine ecology unit.
Underwater.
Maybe you wanted me to clone into the 1.5 billion people in China
So that I can tell you 1.5 billion opinions
Or not.
Because of course, we think all the same – in our same Chinese way
My mouth speaks Chinese
I look Chinese
Obviously,
I am China
Hi, I’m China
A farmer…who grows rice
a generous soul who shares everything - literally
(including my property)
Yes my eyes are open, sorry you still can’t see them
I can’t see, I need glasses
So I can do math
About that Chinese virus
maybe I’ll teach you some Kung Fu one day
My mouth is sealed shut
I breathe poor factory smoke.
I love communism
I am oppressed
And of course,
I eat dogs.
