Golden Friend

Familiar warmth hugs my body.

I break from the coziness of my bed,

Until I see my golden friend once again.

This warmth makes me dream,

This warmth makes me feel seen.

Our daily routine begins.

I tidy the sheets while they tends to the crops.

Our routine is set and we never swap

Once mundane tasks and chores,

Now filled with bliss makes me desire for more.

My golden friend clasps my hand.

The lingering scent of salt hits my nose,

Permeating down to my crooked toes.

I step into the shallow waters blanketed in her warmth,

Frolicing together in the waters till I see the boats entering the port.

Familiar despair anchors my heart.

I realize the fruitlessness of my golden friend’s grip.

Again they would slip from my very fingertips.

Though, I hoped this time that my dreams wouldn’t dissipate so easily.

Still, my golden friend is whisked into the waters ceaselessly.

My golden friend is stolen once again.

I clutch their hand only to be jabbed by the chilling breeze,

Emptiness covers every corner of my heart like a disease.

All familiarity has been dragged out with infuriating ease.

I am all alone with no one to love, no one to please.

With the measly energy remaining in my soul,

I drag my feeble body across the sand,

Journeying back just as planned.

Despite how exhausted, despite the bleeding of my hands,

I make it home with hopes of seeing my golden friend once again.
