My Second Home

The early morning in Montana,

when the sun and clouds peak through the mountains,

I have reached my second home.

Driving through curvy roads,

millions of mountains all around,

I enter the place that warms my soul.

Bozeman, Big Sky, hiking the M,

and Lone Peak makes me feel less alone.

I never want to leave this wonderful place,

no worries, no fears,

just beauty.

My second home will always be here,

and I sigh as I have to leave.

The mountains whisper in the wind.

I cry when I say bye to family and nature

returning to the place that has no peaks, no cool mountain air.

Maybe one day I won’t have to leave.

The author's comments:

This piece means a lot to me because my second home really is in Montana. My family lives out there, so when I visit, I feel at peace.
