Stepping through the doors of highschool for the first time

Brings instant excitement 

Excitement that bubbles up like a boiling teapot 

Ready to begin what I’ve anticipated since elementary

With such excitement, comes nerves

High expectations leave me wallowing in my own thoughts

What will my highschool experience be?

Intimidation flooded throughout my body like a tsunami 

The same students held the power

The type of power that’s seen as god-like in highschool

It had reminded me that this experience may not be totally brand new

I didn’t want to be on the same standard I had spent my past school years on

Waiting and wishing for something to be different

How do I make my highschool experience special?

The nerves highschool gave me

Brought discouragement as well

A sport that I had cherished so dearly slipped through my fingers

Taking my grades and self-confidence with it

I felt myself giving up faster than an out of shape person in a marathon 

Does the highschool experience mean losing the person I was?

Bleak, bland, and boring

The same three words ran through my brain 

As I traveled down a hallway I now dreaded to see

My past excitement has dwindled away 

Throughout these lengthy years that now feel like five total seconds 

And my expectations are exceptionally lower than when I had begun 

Is this all my highschool experience will be?
