A Poem Regarding The All Eternal One And Her Power

On The Saints of Hampstead Heath by Leonora Carrington, 1997

My body lies in absence of soul on the inexplicable dirt.

Risen from my paralyzed gut protrudes the recycling

of my body’s rotting flesh and bones.

My duties detach from my old consecrated form

and relay to the embodiment of a sacred beast.

My eyes fearfully gape in my new form.

The All Eternal One stands beside me,

her owl printed cloak reeks of must and mold,

as she lists off my rejuvenate duties.

I see my lifeless body extrapolate to the chalked dirt,

mummified in mud and string, my feet project outwards.

My new feet; obtruding matte black feathers.

She finishes her new listings granted upon me,

and disappears into the chalked mud, I am now free of

this devilish fantasy I was brought upon.

Eyes reopen from my slumber,

for it was only a hellish dream.

My beak pierces out of my face.

Only my screeches and croaks echo in the night.
