My ashy medium meets the ground

As streaks and lines mend to life

I find myself wondering why

Why do I do it when it all disappears?

Because it's what I love, but love is blind

But I keep moving my wrists smoothly along

One chilly afternoon when the sun was setting

Passed a beautiful woman whose eyes were dazzling

My gaze didn't leave as she passed and ignored

The great work that I made was strumming the wrong chord

Fallen aback by what just took place

I drew out what I saw in the right space

Smack dab in the middle of the sidewalk she passed

So the next time she came I won't be outcast

But that time never came and that work rained away

So I gave up on the hope of her seeing that bouquet

Days turned to weeks and shattered my heart

Til one day I found a new form of art

This art hadn't been my own

Merely placed on the sidewalk propped by a stone

When I saw it, I gasped in excitement

Pulled out my chalk and pinched myself

And to my disbelief, there it was again

Standing as beautiful as ever

It was nothing more than a blank canvas

Ready for art

I put up my medium and then melts my heart

I stop an inch away realizing the meaning

The beauty that showed wasn't what's there

But what's in the past that never got shared
