A Moment in Time

I watch as the flakes of white delicate snow
Drift to the ground like a feather in the wind.
For I know not of the world
I know only being in this moment.
In this moment of everlasting peace.

The memories that we hide beneath that soft white blanket,
Can bare beauty and bare pain.
But they are mine to keep and cherish.
To hold near to me as a moment in time
A memory of past and present.

The air is crisp,
Harsh and cold like a storm,
so thunderous and dark.
That feeling so strong of just being here.
Being alive.

If only we could freeze time
And appreciate these moments.
For we rush, worry and work.
Like we were reaching for something we cannot quite grasp.
But where do we live?

For the silence of this winter evening
Gives freedom,
Gives peace.
As we wait and wonder about the mystery of life
Forever remains a secret,

A secret left for us to find.

But until that moment comes
Before I must go,
Let me remain here.
In this moment,
Within these memories of mine.

The author's comments:

As a student, we need to remember how to hold on to the moment we have in life instead of constantly thinking of future worries that are far from us. I wrote this poem because I want to remind myself and others to know we have to let ourselves remain in this place from time to time where we can just freeze time and enjoy the little moments that are given to us.
