She used to be a caterpillar
So curious,
She used to dig in the dirt
Hunting for worms
On the warm summer days
And catching fireflies
Under the summer’s
Starlit sky.
Now worms disgust her.
Now she hates bugs.

She used to be imaginative,
In her own little world
Talking to her dolls
As she played with them.
Now all her childhood toys
Are in a box in the attic.
Now she can only see
Reality.

She used to not care
What people thought of her,
Being herself
With no concern of
Others’ opinions.
Now she questions
Her looks and decisions,
What she should do
To please the view of others.

Over the years,
She lost touch
With being a caterpillar,
Now she is a butterfly.
How did she become a butterfly?
Such a magnificent creature
That adds the
Beauty to nature.

What changed her?
Was it the bullying,
The judgment,
The fighting,
The high,
Or the pain?
Why couldn’t she receive
All the love
We were trying to give?

Her pain caused her to
Shut down.
Muted colors
Spread on her wings.

Until one day,
She decided
To grow
Into the most beautiful butterfly.

Her wings
Covered in bright colors
As she fluttered through
The spring air,
The pinks, blues, and purples
On her wings
Spread to others
As she helped them
To become
A beautiful butterfly.
