This Burning Family
If you are born into a burning brick house you are often led
to believe the whole world is on fire.
I was born into a house where
THE PEOPLE
were the ones on fire.
Not the foundation of wherever we lived.
When I was young the fire went out for a short period of time.
It was amazing.
I miss the fireless feel of moving into this small apartment
barely enough room for our family of three.
But, that feeling was short-lived.
Soon enough that place was filled to the brim,
Like an overflowing cup of coffee
Then there were four.
Four souls that did not mix as they should.
Four people that caught on fire once again
A fire that burned brighter than ever before.
Then one left.
Now there’s three again.
But, that fire still burns to this day.
A fire that brings me to my knees
At least once a week
A fire that's worse than any heartbreak
I HATE this fire
But, so long as I’m here, the fire will burn.
And I know that as it burns it will take me and my family with it.
Because we are the flames.

I wrote this about my family life. We have been through so much and we still are going through a lot to this day. Writing poetry helps me to feel things more fluidly than I would normally.
