“I Am From”
I am From…
By Kady
Adapted by Levi Romero
Inspired by “Where I’m From” by George Ella Lyon
I am from an old microwave whose old and tired
From an out-of-tune guitar
I am from the old swing out back
Leaves change to orange in the fall
I am from Sunflowers as tall as the roof
The big old Oak tree
Whose long-gone limbs I remember
As if they were my own.
I’m from “life is like a box of chocolates”
From a prehistoric Aunt and uncle
I'm from patience and kindness
And from determination
I'm from “inside voice” and “Calm down lucy”
And amazing grace
I'm from Big family get-togethers
Born in Louisville and raised in red white and blue
Chilli and chocolate pie
From aunts bad hair day
Turned into a fun night out
From the large dusty cookbook
Sitting on top of the fridge
