Mommy?
My favorite place
My mother
She was my knight in shining armor
But,
I never knew her
Her other side
The dark place she was in
The heart and soul being tugged at
By those illicit substances.
Why would you leave me?
Here? In the dark?
She never knew how to be a mother
But she was one
My home
My life
My future
She left without a trace
Feeling so blue.
Where are you?
Mom? How could you?
Trapped in the darkness
Of her own addiction
She left
Me and my sister
Alone
Cold and starving
On the soft reddish-orange couch.
Are you coming back?
Please? Come back?
She did come back,
Eventually,
But only to sell my soul to the devil
The man in the mask
The white van with sweet, sugary candy
Just for her own benefit.
Why don't you care?
For me? My well being?
I wish she would get better
Maybe even be my “mother” again
But no
She wasn't their
Not mind
Not body
Not soul.
The home I never knew left me again.
