Where I'm From
I am from Curly hair, Black bonnets
And long lashes
I am from peppermint,
Fire wood, and the broken trampoline
in the back of the shed.
I am from that red door that
closed and I don't see any more.
I am from Black cake
and Chowmein,
spice just right.
I am from Dark eyes
and Thick brows
To “Stay in a child's place”
And “worry about yourself”
I am from freckles to westles
And blood vessels too.
I am from a big Family,
Started with me
And still growing each week.
From the black to the white,
My loud laugh, I'm only half.
Eating every meal, Spicy or
sweet, curry and roti.
I am from both worlds.
Not thinking I'm enough.
Where I'm from, It's ruff.
