i miss you
i miss the you from when we were kids
the you that i protected
that hid behind me when we met new people
that i read to when you were sick
that stood by my side when i asked for something
the you now is not one that i know
the you that doesn't cry
that no longer needs my help to navigate a chat
that protects others the way i once protected you
that walks with a confidence powerful enough to divide crowds
and i'm happy for you
you are no longer in my shadow
but when you left it
you left me too
