Late Night Thoughts

Some nights I can’t sleep so I just stare up at the ceiling for what feels like hours but could just be minutes
Thoughts race through my head like cars on the open road
Some are slow which makes it easy for me to focus on, taking in all the details
While others are fast, gone almost as quickly as they came
During the day my house is filled with so much noise and we are always busy
There is always a door closing, people shouting, and my dog barking
But at night when everyone goes to bed it’s quiet
Some nights falling asleep is easy with my eyes closing as soon as my head touches the pillow
But some nights I can’t sleep so I just sit in the dark and think
