Nostalgia
A plunging wave,
Drowning bittersweet ache.
When I believed in wishing stars,
Fuzzy fantasies,
The life of make-believe,
Pure simplicity.
My parents weren’t stressed,
Every moment blessed.
Now I am in college,
Missing childhoods coddle,
My parents’ swaddle.
Oblivion, a weightless burden.
Now I am growing up,
So much has changed:
Independence,
Adulthood,
Responsibilities.
Caged freedom.
One of 8 billion,
But never so alone.
Stripped bare—
A baby learning to walk again
In this scary new world.
Edifices of my past fade,
Subtle forgetfulness.
Memories munched mush.
