Passing Stars
From the time our feet found their place beneath us,
We have always been together.
Our youth uplifted into the open world,
Never apart, we promised one another--
Until, while you were suspended between the concrete bounds
His two-ton, metallic hand blew across the asphalt void,
In the moment you were taken,
Could you feel the ground tear apart-
The heavens stripped away, exposing the sky’s gaping maw,
That tore away the cherished heart?
Standing in the middle of the road,
Headlights pass like shooting stars-
My thoughts not of the life we dreamed,
If only to fulfill that wish of ours.
