"Not all those who wander are lost."- JRR Tolkein

I walk through the empty streets with vague familiarity

Of the bustling breezeways that they used to be

And the silence of the scene is broken only by my breath

As the rotting rafters in the houses reek the sulfur scent of death

In this strange, barren void where only I exist

I stand, alone, a interloper in its midst

Yet shadows surround me hinting at something strange

As though they’re hiding from something most deranged

I looked and laughed a little, sure that this peculiar place

Was the cause for my delusions

Surely they’d soon be erased

It would be proven as mere illusion

By a doctor who could trace

The nature of my illness to some far-off disease

Then my unease would be replaced

So I tried to return to the the exit of this sophisticated cell

Return to the busy world I knew all too well

I stood In maddened desperation,

Pounding at the door

But it remained steadfast

And stayed locked forevermore

So in this little ghost town for the rest of my life I stayed

Forever unhurt-

Yet forever unsaved
