As I hear boat motors approach my beach

on the clear teal water.

People in bright-colored bikinis

jump out.

Excitement fills me as I wait

on the beige shore to get

my well-deserved affirmation and my yummy snacks.

The tourist´s big

white boat inches closer by the minute

and in seconds it is fading away.

The smell of fresh fruit finally

reaches my mouth, the taste is like soft silk sitting

on my tongue.

When I look around I see the

colorful people nimbly swimming and basking pleasantly

in the bright sun.

I see my dearest fruit in their hands, a nice juicy peach.

I hear my friends oink as they see it too and start swimming towards a pretty, priceless, peach preaching to be tasted.

My competitiveness hits me as I want to get there first.

I start running, full belly sagging, water filling my nostrils

as I hit the beautiful ocean,

my feet leaving the soft, mushy sand.

As I struggle,

rushing towards the crowd.

Feeling complete as I get there early.

The happiness leaving my body.

They swim past me

and feed my friends

of what I was just hoping to taste.

They board their white ship and are gone, just like that.

Slowly swimming to shore devastated, another day has gone by.

I lay down on the seaweed

that I call a bed, slowly drifting asleep as

Wondering when I'll be able to taste the fruit of my dreams.

I wrote this poem because I love traveling and I have always wanted to travel to the Bahamas. One of the main activities to do is to go to the Caribbean and see the swimming pigs! I thought this was a super fun activity and wanted to try this. I am yet to travel to the Bahamas but it's definitely on my bucket list! I was super excited and thought it'd be fun to write about the perspective of one of the pigs who gets visitors on the island.
