What People Say
It’s interesting
What people say
To make hearts sing
And hide away.
We creep and crawl
And cry aloud.
We fall and fall
Into the ground.
It’s funny too,
What people say
When steeped in blue
And black and gray.
We force a laugh,
Hold back a tear,
But show the graph:
See rising fear.
Confusing, yes,
What people say.
‘Don’t show the stress
Or cracking clay.’
Contrasting mood:
Say ‘this,’ mean ‘that,’
Say ‘bad,' then ‘good,’
Or ‘dog,’ then ‘cat.’
It’s powerful,
What people say.
Words great and dull
Have big array.
A speech to soothe
A swelling crowd.
Or not tell truth
And curse aloud.
I must admit
What people say
Digs deep a pit
That has no ray.
But then again,
It can help climb
And block the rain
And clean the grime.
So listen to
What people say.
Decide what’s true,
And make a way.
Choose what is real,
Don’t try to lie.
Undo the seal,
And for Him fly.
