You do not get to rip my heart out of my chest and decide how much i am allowed to bleed.<br /> - louise kaufmann

I am an observer
I see all

I see when their sad
I see when their happy
I see when their mad

I am an observer
I know all

I know when they blink
I know what they think
I know when the scent is thick
I know when this will stick

This will stick with me for as long as I will be

I am an observer
I watch all

I watch the seams rip
I watch the crying kid
I watch what they did

I am an observer
I hear all

I hear the screams
I hear the help me’s
I hear the routines
I hear everything

I am behind the scenes

I am an observer
I follow all

I follow them into the kitchen
I follow and listen
I follow with precision

I am an observer
I am aware of all

I am aware of the things they speak
I am aware that she is weak
I am aware of the things he seeks
I am aware of the shrieks

I will forever be afraid

I see the I love you’s
I know about the fights and long nights
I watch the abuse
I hear the loud words they speak
I follow the things they do
I am aware they would never do this to me

So why am I scared
But I know they don’t care

This is my home
But I feel so alone

It is not my place
But there are many things that I want to say

For now though
I am an observer

My name is Carma Dix. My poem is about growing up in an abusive household and seeing everything that is going on. It is about so much going on that you aren’t even seen even though you are standing right there.
