I remember
I remember in 3rd grade
When I first came up to you
And asked you to be my friend
On the first day of school
I remember when we built a fort
In the classroom on pajama day,
When I brought my pillows from home
And we all had fun
I remember going to your birthday
And not knowing what to get you
And we went downstairs
And played around
I remember when I had that wedding
By the side of the school
Where no one could see us
And we played music in the background
I remember when I came to class
With my book of sketches
That I traced off my tablet
And you said they were cool
I remember the last day of school
We said we would stay friends
And you signed my yearbook
I remember the day before junior high
When I knew I would find you
And we’d be friends again
But I never did
I remember when we were friends
And we talked and laughed
But now it’s gone
And you don’t even know me

This piece was written by me about my old elementary friend who ghosted me once we got into middle school. I've had lots of thoughts about her, wondering if I could have done anything to make her friends with me again. I still miss her, but I think she hates me.
