Valorie
I went to our room.
She lied still over soft-knit sheets.
I wanted to get her attention, not Aunty's.
But "she's fine, get back in the bed."
Off putting worry drifts along the night.
I curled up to her,
droplets of tears coming down my face.
"Mom... I hope you're okay.."
I woke up to a light from a bright star in the sky.
I'm still holding on to her and the image of her false breaths.
Shake her awake Aunty,
Until I can see her soft brown eyes.
Aunty does, but she as still as the bed she was laying on.
"Valorie! Wake up! Please!'
No response.
Aunty sighs,
Dials 3 numbers.
She looks at me.
I saw 3 emotions,
Sadness, fear, and regret.
"Everything will be alright"
Nothing in that moment was alright.
