Ocean
I love the ocean
I love the crystalized blue in her gaze
the way that the wind makes her hair flow like a wave
I want to share to the world how beautiful she is,
but it isn’t that easy.
When I look at her,
I want to run up to her
throw myself in her arms
I want to kiss her
I want to love her
I want to hold her
and never let go
When I hear her voice,
I feel wanted.
She is my safespace
She doesn’t get annoyed with me
She tries to understand my interests.
She said she finds it cute when I’m like this
No one has done that before.
She is different.
I love the idea of teaching her how to dance
In some ways, us dancing seems more beautiful than theirs
Our two dresses rippling against each others
Our heels elongating our extensions
I love how my dress isn’t clashing against pants
I love how my shoes match with hers
and how they aren’t being paired with flats.
People may sit and judge
They haven’t seen a love like ours
They may not take us seriously
however,
as they gauge in the corner of the room,
we can keep dancing
they can’t see the amount of trust behind every step,
the way that our bodies align,
and the way that we put our whole self into the arms of the other,
as I look up at her,
I can forget all about them,
and return back to my safe space
back to my ocean.

I wrote this two years ago and still think about the way I felt about this person, how all consuming my first experience of love was that I wrote this poem in 2 seconds.
