Halcyon Day MAG
sweet summer air
 sunshine-dappled leaves
 hang off withered, peeling bark

 Michelangelo clouds
painted across a pristine blue canvas
stretched out to reach the horizon

where the flimsy ends of foliage,
held in place by obstinate roots,
 meet pallid gray mist.

 expansive houses line the streets
 each with its own singularity
yet one and the same in their purpose.

 tastefully modest displays of opulence
 glistening cars and gleaming windows
 belied by sweeping, lush farmland

 linear rows of twisted vines
 austere in their calculated precision
 house grapes-to-be, wines-in-waiting

 hidden fruit imbued with anticipation
for Autumn to come breezing by
with her palette of rich, earthy tones

 displaced brown leaves, crimson apples
 perched precariously upon feeble branches
so easily snapped by awaiting hands.
